Since user roles have set global permissions assigned that cannot be customized, user tags allow for a unique way to label users however you want and use them in multiple groups. This allows you to be able to assign courses by users tags.

User tags allow for a unique way to label users however you want and use them in multiple groups. You can create user tags for things like managers, trainees, sales teams, etc. They are a way to get a little more specific than you would with a user group, and you can also use user tags across multiple groups since they are not specific.
To access user tags, in the main navigation click on ‘Users & Groups’, then click on the tab called ‘User Tags’.
A list of existing user tags will appear below.
Creating New User Tags
To create a new user tag, click on the blue “+ Create New Tag’ button.
A modal will then appear where you can add the tag name/label and select a color.
Click ‘Save’ to create and add the tag to the user tags list.
Editing & Deleting User Tags
To edit existing tags, click on any tag in the user tags tab.
A modal will appear where you can edit the label and color of the tag. You can also click on the ‘Delete’ button if you want to remove the tag.
